They are loved because of their beautiful, strong shape and vibrant colors on the sides, and their large humped head resembles that of a fairy, so it is called Arhat.
Origin
This is a fish that has been acquired through the method of re-creation of aquarium artists, but there is no such fish in the wild. There are some claims that Arhat is bred from Red Parrot and Red-throat tilapia, but in fact they are hybridized from many different fish species of the same tilapia family. very diverse inherent in more than 400 species. The Arhat first appeared in aquariums in Malaysia. By 2001, from the first Arhat competitions aroused the Arhat playing movement and quickly spread, received many responses and was popularized to other Asian countries including China and Japan. , Taiwan, ... and really thrived in Vietnam in early 2004.
Currently, Arhat is chosen by many fish farmers to raise as aquarium fish, Arhat is more enthusiastically received than the old discus and arowana, because it is thought that this fish brings prosperity and fortunately, from the sparkling body with many sparkles and a large deformed head, this fish becomes even more beautiful and funny.
Characteristics and classification
As an ornamental fish that is bred, has a fairly long life expectancy (over 10 years) and health is also quite good. Adult fish have many special features inherited by brood and parent fish, especially the sparkling color on the body of no other fish. They have a beautiful fanned tail and fins usually elongated, eyes are not large, and gills are short. Adult Arhat is 25 cm or 30 cm in size depending on the species. Arhat is quite active and curious, swimming a lot in the lake and also likes to spoil the ornamental objects such as rocks, aquatic plants, so they often keep Arhat fish in the plain lake. Easy to raise because the fish is healthy, with few diseases and omnivorous, mainly raw foods such as shrimp, snail, baby fish and minced beef (indigestion).
The general criterion for evaluating a beautiful Arhat is that the body must have many "chau", ie the fish scales are iridescent, colorful, and the larger the hump is, the more valuable it is.
The reason that a standard Arhat fish has a high price is because although they reproduce quite easily, the number of mature fish with beautiful color and large humpback usually accounts for a relatively low percentage of the fish, from 10% to 30% even though the father and mother are beautiful.

Arhat aquarium
The size of Arhat fish may be over 30cm long or shorter due to inheritance from parents. Therefore, the minimum size of an aquarium must be 0.6m x 0.3m x 0.4m. If farmers have favorable conditions, they should choose a tank from 0.8m x 0.4m x 0.5m or more to create a comfortable space for the comprehensive development of Arhat. Decorating the Arhat tank is impossible because Arhat is a very active species, and likes to spread out in large spaces so whatever is in their way is overthrown.
On the other hand, because Arhat fish is large in size, swimming in a pool decorated with rock or fake grass can easily cause external scratches or cause unnecessary accidents. So the best tank should be empty or maybe put a few stones so that they have work to do, move their body, avoid excessive drowsiness and also to maintain their natural behavior. If you have a lot of Arhat fish in one tank, separate them with mirrors, this will not only help prevent them from fighting, but also make your aquarium fish more full.
Temperature
Arhat is a tropical fish, so fish grow in the environment with temperatures from 20oC - 30oC. If the temperature is too cold, the fish can easily get skin diseases and diseases of the digestive tract. Ca kieng farmers recommend that Arhat fish should be kept at temperatures between 28oC and 31oC.
Water Environment
